Eric Heiden: Life After the Olympics
From The Wall Street Journal comes an article about Eric Heiden at the 2014 Winter Games. He was attending the event as the team physician for the U.S. Speed Skating team.
Strained U.S. and Russian relations didn’t seem to phase the former Olympian. Keeping business separate from politics is something that Heiden has grown used to. As a tried to qualify for cycling in the 1980 summer Olympics in Moscow, he stated that he would have gone, despite the U.S. boycott.
As the team’s physician, Dr. Heiden spent two weeks in Italy for training and two days in Sochi. He believes that the time before the competing is the most important for preventing injury and illness. Dr. Heiden currently practices in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah.
